The Amerikazentrum Hamburg is joining the event series „Hamburg liest verbrannte Bücher“.The second installment discusses the author Helen Keller.
Helen Keller was a deaf-blind U.S. writer, pacifist, and radical socialist. Keller learned to read and write German in Braille. She even considered Germany her “spiritual home.” On May 9, 1933, she sent an open letter to the German student body in which she made direct reference to the impending book burning. The Amerikazentrum invites you to talk about her 1912 essay “Why I Became a Socialist” and her work. This event will be held in English.
