In cooperation with the U.S. Embassy Berlin, we offer our members free access to ebooksUSA, a lending platform for eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines.

Access the lending platform here. Click on “Sign In” in the top right corner and select “Hamburg – Amerikazentrum” as your library. To log in, enter your email address and PIN, then click “Sign In.”

Selection

In addition to novels, non-fiction books, and audiobooks, you also have access to a variety of magazines, such as The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, and more.

Ebooks can be read either in your browser (on a computer, tablet, or laptop) or downloaded to your eBook reader (such as Kindle or Tolino). Audiobooks can also be downloaded and played on any MP3-compatible device. Magazines are displayed in the browser. A new, simple way to borrow and enjoy books and audiobooks from your library is through Libby, the successor to OverDrive.

Borrowing

You can borrow up to 6 items simultaneously. The default loan period is 14 days. If you want to extend the loan period to 21 days from the start, you can set this in your account settings. If you don’t make this change, you have the option to renew the loan three days before it expires, provided the item hasn’t been reserved by another user. Once the loan period ends, the items can no longer be used. Returns are automatic.

Reservations

If your desired title is currently checked out, you can place a hold on it (or up to 5 titles simultaneously). When a held title becomes available, you will receive an email notifying you that you have 72 hours to borrow it before the hold is released.

Recommendations

If you cannot find a desired title and it is not listed in ebooksUSA’s collection, you have two options: 1. Recommend its acquisition through the lending platform, or 2. Send your title recommendations in an email with the subject line ebooksUSA Recommendations at the end of each quarter (March 31/June 30/September 30/December 31) to info@amerikazentrum.org. However, neither option guarantees that the title will be added to the collection.
